Default Will not start

My computer goes to the Windows/Progress bar screen, sits there for longer than usual then goes to a screen to choose how to start because there has been an error, either safe mode, last know good config., or normally. None of these options work. I have not loaded any software or hardware recently. I'm guessing i will have to reload windows, which i have had to do before... any other suggestions?

And also, i'm sick of loosing everything on my hard drive, could I add a second hard drive only for XP that way I would only have to dump one in the future in stead of loosing everything?

Thanks.

Hi Keith,

It sounds like you may have corrupted some files of your OS so there isnt much you can do. Also if you run Windows from a seperate HDD your computer will run very slow as it is having to read from two places to run anything.

The best thing I have found to do is save anything that you want to keep onto CDs or have another hard drive to copy anything you want to keep to (but not run from that hard drive).

Hope this helps.

Carl

You could try a Repair Install, if you have the XP Installation disk .... instructions here.

For the future ..... yes you can install XP on it's own drive and have a second drive to store all your data. You can have several additional drives, if you want, depending on how many IDE or SATA connectors are available on your stystem
Or if your HDD is large enough, you could partition the existing drive, with maybe 50gb for XP and the remainder for your Data.
