Default Win XP "CMD here"

OK, so I've been using CMD a lot lately, so I dug up an old regedit:

Code:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd]
@="CMD here"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd\command]
@="cmd.exe /k cd %L"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\cmd]
@="CMD here"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\cmd\command]
@="cmd.exe /k cd %L"
Which basically opens the selected folder or drive in the CMD.

This is great, but when I'm already in the folder, I have to move up a directory, select it, choose CMD here, enter dir again.
Anyone able to tell me how to add the option to the "empty" right click? As in no file selected, the one you get with "New File" etc...
Would be awesome. Thanks.

It makes a difference which operating system you're using.

If you're using Vista then you can hold down the SHIFT key on your keyboard and right-click in the directory you want the command prompt to point at, then select open command prompt here.

Did you even read the title of the thread?
Did you even read the whole post?

I just highly doubt it.

The whole post yes. The title no and I agree it has the XP bit in it. The thing is, I read the text to find out what's wanted and I rolled my eyes when it didn't mention the operating system but then, most posts on CJ don't.

If I had a machine with XP on it I'd remind myself of how I get what you want to happen to happen but I haven't. I'm sure someone here has though. It's probably one of the various powertoys - not necessarily the Microsoft one - I'm quite sure I never added it as a hand-patch to the registry.

There is a CMD Here Power Toy on Micro$oft's web pages.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

If you explain again what you want to do maybe we can help. Are you asking how to add commands to the "New..." menu? I don't understand your problems with CMDHere.

He wants to right-click in the file view window (as opposed to the tree view window) and be able to open a command window in the current directory. I just tried it in Konqueror for example (the nearest GUI-equivalent I could find on my system) and the right-click / Actions / Terminal Here has that effect. He'd like to do the same in Windows Explorer.

Perhaps we could build a Computer Juice vocabulary list?

Actually I think that maybe he isn't seeing the tree view, that is consistent with how he describes the difficulty. Perhaps he doesn't have a shortcut to explorer.exe, and just uses My Computer. Hold down Shift when you double click My Computer.

A little rude don't you think? He was only trying to help and mistakes happen.

I know this thread is old, but here is a possible trick :

Code:
+--#[ HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT ]
   +--#[ * ]
      +--#[ shell ]
+--#[ Open terminal in current directory ]
            +--#[ command ]
               +- (default)	REG_SZ	cmd.exe /k cd %CD%
In fact, you have to click on a file for it to work... this is why i say this is a trick...
