I think my old win98 finally bit the dust on me after almost 9 years. I have had to re-install probably 5 or 6 times so I am familiar with this particular computer.

I thought the graphics were going but then it just crashed basically. There were discolored lines going from top to the bottom of the screen.

The re-install goes fine to the point of the final re-boot when it will not load all the way to the desktop. Just a black screen.

Is it actually my hard drive that had failed?

Could be drivers, if the graphics card has played up in the past I'd probably swap that.

Thats why I am unsure of where to start.
Never any problems with anything other then the re-installs. And that was due to my daughter deleting "something" that I never could track down.
And twice due to just overall slowness and I wanted a clean start. So a re-install was the easiest rout.
Thinking of it this is the 4th attempt at re-installing.
