Give Windows Virtual PC 2007 or VMWare Server a try.

Should I download this then and have a play, is it much different/better than Vista?

What about just downloading it, burning the disc, and installing it to my new (well not so new, but still unused) harddrive?. Then if it messes up I can just wipe the drive and I don't lose anything.

Correct, although if your current drive is still connected it will mess with the pre-boot menu I think.

Disconnect the current drive to be safe, will also prevent messing things up and/or losing any data.

Can't i just create a runstop on booting so it stops in BIOS and asks me which drive I want to boot the OS from? Is runstop still the correct term or is that as outdated as most of my computer knowledge?

Yep, that is possible. Basically same process as just partitioning the hard drive and doing it that way. But there is a possibility of screwing your current OS up.

Best way would be to install it on the new hard drive with no other HD attached, and then just plug it in as the secondary hard drive and plug existing one back in.

Then, if you want to boot Vista, just leave it as it is now, but if you want W7, change the boot order in the BIOS to boot the secondary hard drive first.

Then you will always be able to revert back easily.

But the best way is just to run a VM :) Far far easier. And completely free.

I have a tutorial here if it interest you:
http://www.computer-juice.com/forums...utorial-19740/

Just download Windows 7, install Virtual PC, create a new VM, give it Vista specifications, 20GB virtual hard drive and turn it on.

Then go to the CD menu in the virtual machine screen and select Capture ISO image and point it to the Windows 7 ISO.

Reset it (Action -> Rest) and it will start installing.

Make a copy of the Virtual Hard Drive as a backup, and start playing.

Yep. I had the same problem

Doesn't even give you an error message. Just plain does nothing lol.

But in Internet Explorer it opens the MS Download Manager which works well.

Just damn. I couldn't get it to download and completely forgot I was trying to do so in Firefox, I know better than that, you can't get anything from M$ using Firefox as your browser. LOL I'll try again with IE.

Glad I read before I asked my dumb "why is nothing happening" question.

Once I get it downloaded and have time i have some questions for you Server about the 64 bit version (the one I'm downloading). Real quick like though, how much time did it take to download?
