im looking at buying a new laptop now that comes with a free upgrade to windows 7 but i use remote desktop alot so i was wondering what windows 7 to upgrade to?

Home, Pro or Ultimate?

also does anyone know what the price range is on the anytime upgrade disks?

Have a read of the Notes on this page

It seems that you cannot connect to a PC, using Starter, Home or Premium editions. This suggests that you can connect from them though.

As the Beta and RC versions released were Ultimate editions, it's hard to be definite on this, but if you need to connect to the Laptop, it looks like you will need Pro or Ultimate.
