Windows 7 - Pre-order and get it Half Price ... go here

No UK participating retailers listed yet, when you change country to UK, but the offer doesn't start in the UK until 15th July, so maybe they will be added nearer the time.

Yep ... that's what I was thinking.
Looking at the comparison of versions, the Home Premium seems quite adequate too .... unless I'm missing something, there's not much for the average user in the Pro or Ultimate versions.

Agreed, Home Prem will do me just fine. It's good to see they went with the 3 tier option rather than Vistas five(?) That was a bit confusing.

One little disappointment ..... I am hearing that there will be no native support for Blu-Ray playback in Windows 7.
Something to do with legal issues with Sun Systems/Java Runtime, from what I can make out, so it looks like 3rd party software, such as Powerd DVD Ultra, will still be required to watch/play blu-ray disks.
There are lots of other codecs (audio & video) though, so still an improvement. Would have been nice if Media Player could have handled blu-ray though. Maybe there will be an upgrade, if ever M$ & Sun sort out their differences.

Thats shame... although I am actually quite impressed with Cyberlink's Hi-Def Suite, came free with my LG drive, easily worth paying £30 for if they did charge for it.

I might be wrong, but I think you'll find the bundled software is cut down and only supports 2.1 audio ....... for 5.1 you have to pay for the full version.
If you're using it for HTPC use, obviously this wouldn't be acceptable.

I hope not...

I'm pretty sure I was getting 5.1, and it hasn't tried to make me buy anything, nor does it say trial or limited software or anything like that..

I'll experiment with the speakers in a sec, I spose the PC might just be emulating sound for the others, or just cloning it...

Cheers for the heads up, I'll check it out.
