My friend has an old 300GB HD that was a FAT32 partition on it. He installed it in a system with Windows 7 and it shows only 34GB. The drive shows as 300Gb in Linux. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Try reformatting the drive with NTFS / or convert it to NTFS which ever you find easier. Fat32 limits the volume of the drive to around 32gb. NTFS supports volumes up to 2Terabytes. This should fix it assuming you are getting 300gb when you look in the bios.

Check that the drive does not have a 32gb limiting jumper on it. If you are unsure, tell us the Make and Model No, of the drive.
