I agree 100% the consumer wants better performance, but for companies and people who gave up on Vista for it's new design they will have to spend a ton of money getting people up to par with it; and of course the older people in the companies don't like change, espacially when it comes to the software, excel, word, power point.

This will be a intresting transtion. I personaly like vista; even though I'm useing xp.

Good Point Dave

Thing is anyone not pursuing performance is welcome to stick with Win2000 all day long, no one is forced to upgrade.

Except Microsoft stops support of the OS after a while, which means no new security updates, which is a problem.

Quite the opposite thingie, Jan 2010 was an earlier expectation, but now they're saying June 3rd 2009

The server version is only available in 64-bit, but the standard client verison is available in both 32 and 64-bit.

EDIT: Well, I say is.. I suppose I mean will be.. but who knows, they may change they're minds.

Bill Veghte (SVP @ Microsoft):
"You've let us know you don't want to face the kinds of incompatibility challenges with the next version of Windows you might have experienced early with Windows Vista. As a result, our approach with Windows 7 is to build off the same core architecture as Windows Vista so the investments you and our partners have made in Windows Vista will continue to pay off with Windows 7. Our goal is to ensure the migration process from Windows Vista to Windows 7 is straightforward."
