You're right Dave,

December '08 at the Proffessional Developers Conference, they will release a Beta.

Seems like windows 7 is the exception to the rule then, if it's coming earlier than first expected. And it seems strange to offer a 32bit version if the minimum RAM is 4GB, that would be like just giving Microsoft your money for nothing, as it won't recognise the full 4GB and therefore won't work...

That certainly is odd..

Unless the 4GB RAM is for the equivalent of Vista Ultimate, and you only need 2GB for the Home equivalent.

It's hard to tell whats going on when so many rumours are flying round, we won't really know what's happening until Microsoft make a press-release or whatever it is they do.

But even then, you don't truly know how it'll behave until they launch it and you try it out.

Take their recommendation of 1GB RAM for Vista for example.. I fell into that trap.. and am now living with the consequences..

I suppose you could be right, if they make different versions of Windows 7, and I don't know why anyone, atleast anyone who knows anything about computers, would go for anything less than 2GB or RAM whatever the requirement said.

Is that a knock on me?

Yeah, it was a grave mistake.. but I was misinformed.. I was told that 512MB was the minimum, and 1GB was the smooth amount.

Not 1GB and 2GB, respectively..

Dam those unreliable friends..

No no no, don't worry, I was joking myself.

That was a fair while ago (although obviously still in Vista's time) and I didn't understand half of what I do now, hell not even an eighth.

C'mon, you can still run Win2000 securely today.

Yes, but why would you?

I can see some sense in older systems, like DOS run OS's but 2000 is a bit of a pointless middleman - or middleOS, why not have XP.
