I can see some sense in older systems, like DOS run OS's but 2000 is a bit of a pointless middleman - or middleOS, why not have XP.
I'm not saying you should, I'm just making a point that people complain about having to upgrade because of Windows constantly being more demanding, yet it is the consumer pushing for better performance that drives this circle and no one is holding a gun to their head, don't like it stay on Win2000, XP, ME, 98, no one is stopping them.

There are BETAs out but you have to know someone who works or partners with Microsoft.

My uncle is a Microsoft partner, and he has been sent the Milestone releases the have done so far (M1, M2, M3). He's been staying here this week (normally lives in the Chicago) and had the M3 release on his laptop in a VM.

I had a play around with it, and it is similar to Vista TBH. There is some more eyecandy, as you can see from the YouTube videos, but most of it is still non-functional. They've renamed a load of stuff, like theres a Windows Solution Centre instead of Security Centre.

The Alpha-1 comes out at the PDC conference soon at the end of this month. That is meant to be the first 'useful' release.

Then the public beta is currently on for sometime in December. But, unless you've been a tester for Office 2K7 and Vista, then it is unlikely you'll get into it. Its going to be on Connect, but I think that is more for the public betas coming out later. The first beta testers selected will probably get an email, so I was told.

Anyway, if anyone wants some screenshots of the Alpha release at the end of this month, I hope to get hold of a copy through my uncle. I have the M3 build now, but it is not usable.

OK, cool, I might have to have a word with an ICT teacher at my 6th form, as he's a member (i think he still is anyway) of technet, so should get the beta's etc as soon as they are around.

Technet or Technet Plus?

I've got a Plus subscription, so I get access to all the Microsoft software for free, but I haven't heard anything about 7 yet. I guess it may come soon though.

Anyone can get a Technet account.

I dunno, I didn't know there was a technet Plus.

Any yea, anyone can get the technet subscription, but it costs like £300 for a year.

No, Technet is free, Plus is paid.

But, Technet Plus is well well well worth the cost. You pay about £250 (or go to a Microsoft event and pick one up for free, like I did) and you get access to every Microsoft product. Literally.

The drawback is that the licenses are only for evaluation, but they last for ever, and do not expire when you stop subscribing to Technet.

never knew they gave them out free as Microsoft events, I'll have to have a look into going to one, even if it's only for a technet membership lol, and yea, it's a problem it only for evaluating, so your not allowed to use it for general use.
