Default Windows 7 - Whats the Point?

Ok i know its a little to soon the criticizes as its only in Beta form but from what i have seen in the Benchmark testing and looking and compatibility and features is just Vista...but worse they have made it look better with new taskbars and see-through windows all stuff chewing up ur ram and processor even with all of them turned off then benchmarking is bad it loses to vista by 20% or even XP is better...

Have they Rushed this or do Windows not listen to what we want..DAM U VAST MAGORITY OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE GOOD LOOKING THINGS AND FANCY WINODWS I WANT TO PLAY A GAME!

The software has to evolve to keep up with new hardware and vice versa. It's a cycle. It's nothing new, back in the day PCs were just the same. If you think Windows 7 is slow you should have used an Amstrad in 90's and the games were hardly intensive.

Over an hour to load a game...

Have you actually tried it for yourself ?

I run Vista Ultimate and I put Windows 7 on my Laptop recently and despite trying to bag it down with Office, Antispyware and a number of other Appz, it still seems pretty snappy to me.
I cant comment with Games, as I never play them on the PC, but for most other stuff, the Beta behaves well .... I haven't managed to crash it yet and it didn't require any drivers at installation ... it picked up all the hardware, without a hitch. The only software that has been incompatible so far, is SuperAntiSpyware.

Benchmarks are numbers on paper and are meaningless to me, if the real life experience contradicts them.
I'm not saying Windows 7 is perfect, by any means, but as it's the 1st Beta, it can only improve

I like it already - and it does seem pretty quick. AVG 8 didn't like it though - had to switch to Avast...

You took the words right out of my mouth . I agree, Also to the OP (personal opinion) even in beta W7 feels like a finished version of Vista. Granted I've not long been on Vista and had only used W7 for a few days on one of my old desktops but it dose not change the fact that for me it ran faster then Vista and felt very stable, even in beta. I probably wasn't on it W7 long enough to see a big difference but I agree with you when you say its just Vista but better looking, how ever I completely disagree when you say it chews up your ram and cpu, but that could be just me, not sure if anyone else has experienced W7 hogging there ram and cpu.

I know this may seem Snudy but im the sort of person who if i could get my boot time down by a second i will do it or get an extra 5fps on crysis i will.

So benchmarks are what i go by unless i see an improvement its just a free version of vista.....

The thing is without Vista and 7, direct X would not advance, and neither would the games you love so much. Yeah if Microsoft disappeared tomorrow someone would fill their gap but they would take years to get up to speed and would they do a better job? Windows is a cog in the big wheel of PC progression, love it or hate it they make things move, which makes your games better. Would you rather be moaning that games still look like they were made in the 90's or that you lost 5FPS?

I know what u mean but coming from an age where progress is so slow compared to what it was in the the 80s look how far they have come and 30 years...in the last 10 progress has been SLOWER compared to there and i know there is limitations on physics and what is accually possible but we are aiming for perfection and in a age where u pay £200 more on a processor that can run 100 programs 1 second faster then the next...

In my Opinion Windows 7 should all be about performance trying to reach that perfection which is impossible to reach....
