Default Windows Activation Problem

Ok guys, I'm a noob here so don't get mad at me for doin' something stupid.

So basically, I have a computer in my room and a laptop, both were running horribly because Windows just sucks. So my friend gave me a re-installation of Windows Home Edition. So i reinstalled on my computer which already had the home edition on it. It worked great so I decided to do the same thing to my laptop. But the problem was my laptop was running XP Professional Edition, and when i reinstalled Windows, it installed the Home Edition. So, today I tried activating my laptop but when i entered in the product key, it said it wasn't a correct key. I'm thinking that Product keys designed for Windows Professional are different than Keys for Windows Home Edition. But again, I'm a noob, so if anyone knows my problem, help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Product keys are unique to each CD.

So, can or do anything about it? Or do I just have to re-format my hard drive every 30 days?

It's the key that is the important bit. If you can borrow an XP Pro disc that is the same type as yours (Retail, OEM, student etc) you will be able to activate windows legally.

Exactly, I said CD in the earlier post when I should have said OS.
