Hey Everyone,

I'm new here but figured I'd ask away.

What I'm running is XP sp2 on a custom built computer.

My problem is that when I boot up everything seems to be working properly until i get the Welcome screen. The log on screen never appears and only my background shows up. 30 seconds later I get the log on chime, but that's it. Only my wallpaper has appeared.

I was told this is Windows explorer, but I'm not sure.

If it is, what do i need to do? This is the second time this has happened in a few weeks. Just formatted and reinstalled a week ago because of the same problem.

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

yes that is deffinitly explorer, i have no idea y it is happening but i know how 2 fix it. once your computer is started up press ctrl+alt+del and click file then run, type explorer. then everything should be normal, however to make this permanent you need to make a shortcut to explorer (right click on the desktop then new then shortcut then put in explorer.exe, then right click on that shortcut then copy then go into the start menu, go to all programs then right click startup then open and then paste the shortcut into that folder, hope this helps.

since you have reformatted and the problem still happens that rules out a virus, mabey your windows install disk is damaged or faulty
