Hmm
Maybe it is a jumper issue, how many optical drives and hdd drives do you have and what is the configuration on them?

1 optical drive - Asus DRW 1814BLT - SATA Both running as ACHI (tried running them as IDE but problem still persisted) Asus MoBo has 6 SATA ports HD currently plugged into SATA 5 and DVD currently plugged into SATA 6. Originally they were plugged into SATA 1 & 2, but I changed them in case the problem was related to the SATA ports. My System: The Elephant

I cant think of anything more it could be, not unless you have installed drivers without removing older one first, but you sound as if you wouldn't make that mistake though

Hi guys, thanks for all your help. Thankfully, I have managed to sort the problem out, it involved completely reformating the hard drive and the reinstalling all the software and drivers in stages and then seeing if the problem occurred and then moving on to the next batch. It seems to have done the trick. The first time around I had installed most of the software and drivers that came with hardware, some of which I realise now were not necessary, so this time I also installed specific drivers. The problem I think may have been related to the Jmicron controller as this time I did not install it. Anyway thanks so much for your help, it was greatly appreciated.
