A while back i was doing a ton of stuff when my computer froze, it didn't just stop to where i could do nothing. It first stopped moving the files, then the task bar and windows wouldn't respond then every thing would be stuck except for the mouse.
Thinking it was just a regular freeze up for what ever reason i hard restarted and continued on my way. but when it came back up it had to do a check disk, and actually had to delete bad file and sectors (which i figured cuz i was moving files). When Windows FINALLY came back i went to move it again, only to have it freeze up again. It did the same thing, but this time minus the chkdsk, and i went on my merry way. Thinking it was HEAVY fragmentation i went into defraggler and sent to do a simple file defrag, and it froze again... Now i am kinda freakin out. when ever i have to move files (not sure what size they usually are), or do a defrag, or a disk diagnostic program (used Western Digital's) it seems to freeze. I have backed up what is important to me, and now more relaxed i did the Western Digital's disk diagnostic program (first time it froze) and the second time it just stopped at a sector and would not go on, although the program was still going. I have also done a full virus scan with Avast! and it turned up nothing. Any suggestions for fixing this problem? I would like to not be in fear of my computer going caput as i like it and have only had it for a year.... thanks guys!!! |

Some extra info, the HD passes S.M.A.R.T. Testing, but a full physical scan still stops at the same sector..

It's hard to be certain, but all the warning signs are there and I think you have already diagnosed correctly.
