I just recently wiped my hard drive (used DBan a.k.a. Boot and Nuke) and reinstalled Windows XP Media Center on my computer. I've downloaded all the updates. I'm having trouble installing some programs though, such as Microsoft Office. I get an error message:

Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly instaled. Contact you support personnel for assistance.

I've tried to fix this my self by following the directions stated here (used method one).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346

It didnt change anything. Please advise. Thank you.

Re-register MsiExec
  • Go to Start > Run
  • Type or Copy and Paste the following:
    • MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER then hit enter.
  • Then again Start > Run
  • Now type or Copy and Paste the following:
    • MSIEXEC /REGSERVER then hit enter.
No visible change will take place. Try to install/uninstall again.

If this method fails, you will need to reinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI)
Windows Installer 3.1

I tried your fist method, and it fixed the problem! Thank you very much. FYI, the link you mentioned is out dated. The current Windows update has a newer version than that one (The only reason I know is becaue I tried to follow your link after a failed attempt at suggestion 1. Suggestion 1 works! I just mis keyed in the "run" text box) Thanks again.
