I have recently been having a problem with my computer. It will boot fine, load up and generally work until I have finished what i am doing without any problems.

However more and more often i am getting a problem where the whole computer freezes, all the open windows don't respond, it freezes for 3-5mins then... BSOD.

Unfortunately its one of those quick ones that shuts down super fast so i haven't managed to get an error code yet.

I imagine, although I am not sure that there is a problem with the hard-drive as I have virus checked and done just about everything and found that there is no malware on the computer. So i figured maybe corrupt files or a hardware problem on the hard disk??

Any advice, if possible I would like to solve this without having to reload Vista.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

To see the 'blue screen of death' (BSOD) without the computer restarting, go to Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup & Recovery Settings button > System Failure and remove the checkmark from 'Automatically restart'. The full BSOD message and Stop error code will help pinpoint the cause of the problem.

Without the code it's all guessing, will have to wait unfortunately.

Nothing, It did seem to happen straight after i updated windows, and firefox, but i did a system restore and it still continued to happen.

In the meantime, i have had the BSOD again, it seems i got an 0x8 error?

I have a few of the error codes here...

0x86F3DD90
0x86F3DEDC
0x82623F00

Anyone help with this?

After updating windows. Hmm. Is this after the installation of a service pack or after just 1 or 2 updates?

Just a simple update. I really think that was a coincidence though...

If it's a single update it could be a co-incidance or it could not be. Depends what the update was for.
