Is it like XP home with just the media center or a bit more? I looked on the back of some software the other day (can't remember what) and it said it can be used on home and professional does that mean it wouldn't work on media center?

Media Center is based on XP Home.

If a product says it works on XP Home it will be ok with Media Center.

It is just geared towards media rather than games or programs.
