My trusty 7 year old laptop, Compaq Armada M700, is having "issues" There is a system driver file missing or corrupt:
System32\Drivers\pci.sys

It says underneath to insert the original Setup CD at boot up, I do this but when the CD is loading and its in the Windows seeup screen, it fails to load and restarts. Now the problem, being and Stop motion animator I had lots of Programs and stored Files of unfinished work. Approx about 60GB worth.

I can either keep trying to use the CD or install windows again. I dont want to reinstall windows (meaning i wipe the drive) if I cant get this Data Back!

Any surrgestions and i would be grateful.

Just a thought.

Make sure there is not a floppy disk or cd inserted except the disk you are using to boot from. Also make sure there is no device connected to computer via usb port
