can anyboyd advise, i am having problems with my cd/dvd drive it has disappeared have been given various solutions in an attempt to resolve but was wondering if i go back to a checkpoint on system restore where i know that the drive was working will i lose information that i have download ie. photographs etc that were installed after the checkpoint i was going to go back to.

You shouldn't lose any personal data/downloads, but you will lose Windows Updates and any software installed during that period.
