Just fitted a new Gigabyte mother board ( GA-81945GMF-RH ) and with it comes Easytune 5, looks like a great tool but I cannot install it as Uninstallshield is running and needs to be shut down. Having searched for ages I eventually found the run command uninst.exe to remove it. When I try it tells me that it cannot because the log file " is missing. Does any one have any ideas? What is uninstallshield and why is it running?

Thanks in advance,

Keith.

Hi Keith,

Not come across this before, if you are sure you can remove that file then try doing so in safe mode.

The reason you cannot do it in normal windows is probably because the file is in use.

Thats the thing I'm not!! I have surfed and can't seem to find an answer to exactly what it is or does. Installshield is easy to find but not, it would seem, uninstallshield. Would like to know what it is and whats running it on my system as I cannot locate it anywhere.

Install shield is part of windows, it is used when installing software.

Have you tried contacting the maker of the software via email, it may be an isolated case so they could help better.

If you have this problem when installing ALL software from different manufacturers then it is probably a problem with your PC rather then their software..

Just turned on and for the hell of it clicked on my Easytune5 icon, it went straight in!!!!! I must have tried it 50 times prior to this! Whats all that about?
Just to change the subject slightly, the reason I wanted it in was to use the overclock facility. Unfortunatley it's 'greyed out'. I have looked in BIOS for any adjustment and I don't have any, even under the advanced chip set options. My old board had an M.I.T facility that made this easy, this one doesn't but does state in the destructions that it depends on the processor fitted as to how many options are available. My processor is an Intel 920D 2.8. Is this processor locked? If so, can I unlock it? Is it more likely to be my processor thats preventing overclocking or my mother board? My mother board is a Gigabyte GA-81945GMF-RH and is crammed full of features so I am assuming it is the processor as I have read stories of people pushing this processor quite high, any advice on this would be highly appreciated.

Firstly, yes the multiplier on the 920 is locked. So as it stands you'll have to drop the multiplier and up the fsb to get an overclock. Be warned though Pentium D's run hot so have some good air cooling (or water cooling).

I havn't heard of major overclocks on the D series without upping the Vcore voltage, so you may have mess with that to get any tangible benefit. But this is of course mobo dependent.

With regards to unlocking it as far as im aware Gigabyte boards are rather unfriendly when i comes to Intel 9** or 8** series cpu's. You'd have been better going for an Asus p5b. The fact the options are greyed out pretty much tells the story.

As it stands i think you're stuck i'm afraid. I'd sell the 920 and get a core2, maybe E6300/6400/6420 or E4300, then you'd be talking.
