you are going to need to you a usb stick or a ethernet connection to the router, depending where the router/computer is a usb maybe your only option.

have you got the XP activation key? if so it is as easy as putting the CD and booting from it

make sure if you got any files on there you need to back them up, firefox, office etc will be lost!

i dont claim to be a genius just trying to help

i connected my GF's router up to her computer using the ethernet cable and then a second pc using the wireless usb connection

we took the phone line cable all the way upstairs to connect to the router only for it to be sent back downstairs wirelessly, why i dont know but it seemed easier at the time

and yes the yellow cable, thats the ethernet connection,

but like i say ive only set up one for someone else and it works fine for her

If the system has been installed with Windows ME and has USB1 ports, that sounds as though the hardware may be quite old . If so, you may not have enough resources (especially RAM), to run XP and if you try, this may make things very slow and unresponsive ........ also you will need to find new hardware drivers for XP.

Grab a copy of Everest Home and report back with the system specs, then we can advise you better.

aol vr is for vista (vr = vista ready)

right you dont need internet software to run a router so deleted the aol software

get the router instruction manual

in there will be an IP you have to connect to via a web browser, something like 192.168.2.2 < thats a guess but looks similar

you then set up the router step by step

then restart your computer

open up a web browser and it should auto connect

ok but my grandaughter is only 6 so i would prefer her to only be able to sign on to aol with parent gaurd on so she can just use the site that we pick for her ? also no manual as its my old router i had with aol not with them anymore
