right im getting you now

what router if you know, does shelley use?

but yes do a clean install of XP (we can guide you along the way fi needed) then find a usb wireless tick which will work with XP, install drivers and it should pick up your daughters wireless router when you give her the computer

no need to install aol

it does sound an old computer however like phil says and you may still find it slow

Grab a copy of Everest Home and report back with the system specs, then we can advise you better.

hi thanks
system specs ? the thing is i would not have a clue where to find them and why woudl i be downloading everest home ? on this pc as its not this one i have the problem with and i cannot connect the other to the internet thats the problem ?

you could download everest and then transfer the .exe file with a usb stick and then install it on the other computer,

it will run a scan, save it, and the transfer it back to the computer you are using and upload it on to here

If you download Everest Home on your PC, you can then put it on a Floppy Disk, CD or USB Memory stick and install it on your grandaughter's PC. Everest will give you a summary of all the Hardware and RAM. Having said that, as you have already installed XP, it's a bit academic now.

I think this thread has become a bit confusing, because you are referring to your PC and BT Home Hub etc., when it's your grandaughter's PC we should be concentrating on.

If your daughter has an existing broadband connection with AOL and is using a Wireless Modem/Router, then your grandaughter's PC will need a wireless Network Card or USB Wireless Adaptor to communicate with the existing set up.

I am a bit confused as to why you are trying to set this up to work on your BT connection, if it is not the loaction where the PC is to be used ..... this will just serve to complicate things.

right let me explain the reason i wanted it get it connected at my house was to make sure it worked ok before i took it round to my grandaughter other wise it would be like giving her a sweet bag with nothing in so to speak so when Mrdaveyk ask all about it i just explained it how it is also i wanted to see if i could get it to work on the modem router i had spare save me buying a wireless usb stick but if thats what i need to get then thats that thats all i was trying to get to i will run the scan thing in a mo when i have downloaded it on to a disc
