Well, I have installed windows vista RC1 and I must say im inpressed. A lot of cool new features. I definatly would wait a while before buying it if you are only upgrading as there are somethings that just are not right, but if you are buying a new computer...Vista is great.

One thing I have a problem with is every now and then I get a message saying I do not have permissions to edit this file when i am the Admin account. I know how to run a program as an admin but im talking about changing the folders name...Anyone that has Vista had this problem before?

I haven't used it personally, I have heard its pretty buggy. Going to wait for the full release.

Sorry I can't help with your problem.

Dave.

Are there a lot of new features with Vista? Also, do we know yet how much it is going to cost when the finished version is released?

What I know of is thats its got very cool looking interface like the Mac OS.

Direct 10 is included, game designers use Direct X to create games, with the one that comes with Vista it will allow tham to make games that look 6 times better with the same processing power. You may have to buy a new graphics card that supports the new pixel shader.

If you have'nt yet installed Windows 64. Vista will allow games and software to access upto 16GB or ram thats 16384MB provided you have a decent motherboard.
At the moment Windows XP can only access 2GB Max and 3Gb Max with some complicated OS modification.

Windows Vista will use up more processing power and ram than XP so its not a good upgrade for a lot of computers.

Yeah I had to update my Graphics card but it was well worth it. As far as memroy goes, says minimum recommended memory is 1 GiB, that why I had the questions on the other thread. Its well worth the upgrad in my opinion and I only have version x86 installed.

Next gen games maybe in a year will only run on Vista so wether gamers want it or not they will have to install it Direct 10 is Vista only.
My 3D software won't run on Win 64 so I doubt it will run on Vista. For me I will be upgrading to Vista and upgrading my 3D software to the 64 bit version at the same time costing over £2000. I will wait till an important game needs it, the type of game you live on and dump your woman for.

Windows Vista screenshot in Aero mode.
The cheapest version of Vista will not feature this look.
You will need at least the business version for dual processor support.

That looks very nice indeed and modern better than the standard XP now.

I would really want to use Vista when it's released but I know it is going to cost a bomb to purchase, and I just cant afford that!

Oh yes, that looks really nice. I think if we go to Windows site we can take a tour of Vista. I may just do that!
