CG Man , you are both right and wrong with your last post. Your basic version of Windows vista will not look like that but you do not have to have the business version to look like that. Users can purchace the ultimate version for home computers and still get optimal preformance with only 1 processor and 1GiB of RAM. I only know this because Im running ultimate on my computer and those are the requirements i had to meet. You can get screenshots of my desktop here: www.angelfire.com/tx2/kennykiller

What I ment was, the lowest version does not that have the Aero look.
To render 3D or use photoshop on two processors I would need at least the business version. On the lower versions Windows Vista would only use one processor but would use all cores in one processor.

My new Toshiba laptop is Vista capable. I think I'll wait for the bugs to be fixed.

Thanks for the preview!

No problem. Vista will be really nice when its completly finished. I wouldnt recommend upgrading a computer you use as a main computer until Vista is boxed and sold, since there may not be an upgrade from Vista RC1 (current release)to Windows Vista Boxed.

I think you should wait for atleast a couple months after Vista is released until you go out and buy a copy. There are bound to be many bugs in the initial release that will slowly (and painfully) have to be worked out of the system with the automatic updates. Stick with XP for now and see how Vista goes.

Well I'm running the full release now.

Its not without its problems.

Had to get a new sound card, printer and digital camera.

Not to mention all the driver issues with outer bits and pieces.

If you don't mind a bit of hassle its definitely worth it.

Cool Windows Vista

I bought a new PC the other week because it has Windows Vista Home on it. I admit I only bought the tower as I had everything else. Cost £ 250 and thought for something like this it was a bargain but as I have learned in the past.....if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys ! I find Vista tends to freeze a lot - it doesnt seem to like Norton antivirus software either ! It keeps asking you permission to do things, even when you have told it to do it in the first place.......I found none of this with XP, which seemed to be lot more stable. I can't say I have noticed any real improvement above Win XP and the new version of IE seems less user friendly. Also, I noticed that somewhere they recomment you have a minimum of 1Gb of RAM for Windows Vista on your system. This PC only comes with 512 M RAM so wondered if that makes the difference ?? If so, think I might have reason for complaint ?

A few things to point out.

Norton is crap, don't use it, use a free anti-virus like Avast.

Vista will be slow with 512MB ram, you really need 1-2GB.

Vista has settings to turn off it always asking permission to do things. It is a better operating system, it's just a bit over protective out of the box.

Finally if your PC is freezing, take it back to where you bought it, it is after all only a week old.

Thanks Dave

I agree Norton is highly intrusive.........it starts doing things like downloading updates that use up all the RAM ! I have been using AVG and have a months trial. So far I am impressed.

I think I will give the customer support a call.......dont think Tesco's will be too enamoured with me returning this only after a couple of weeks. They will probably say its a warranty thing and don't want to have anything to do with it !! They are like that, atleast this particular store.
