 Windows Vista Bsod Error.. What Are My Options

hey all, a laptop running vista has the bsod and i was wondering what my options were.. there no malfunctioning hardware but when AVG was installed the error happened. nothing can be done on it as it doesnt display POST and goes straight to the error.
shall i just try ...
