hello!

I have a big problem
I delete Windows XP, because i bought windows Vista Ultimate, everything is good during installation, but when the installation must complete i get this error.

Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed.
I don`t know what to do...Please help me.

I imagine this is a Vista Upgrade disk ... if so Vista prevents you from doing a clean instal, because it isn't clever enough to validate your qualifying product disk ... can you believe !!.

Luckily there is a workaround that Microsoft published in their internal documentation, but didn't advertise too well ..... I reckon they hope everyone will rush out and buy the full version, to avoid all the hassel of installing their qualifying product first.
This is a crazy move, as most folks will recall that previous OS's simply asked for a qualifying product disk to be inserted, during installation ........ I guess that's progress ...... or is it Vista

No, it`s not upgrade disk...
Soo now i must firts install win XP and then upgrade to Vista?

What disk did you buy .... i.e. what does it say on the disk/box ? .... we are talking about a genuine retail version yeah ?

OK ..... if you are installing on a Hard Drive that already contains an earlier version of Windows, try formatting the disk and then install Vista.

Hi i installed vista pre on a upgrade disc upgraded xp well down graded xp and even tho it says upgrade not allowed anymore it still installs ok.
I used it for a week and went back to xp pro
