Default Windows Vista to XP Reformat/Downgrading?

I brought a new laptop with has Windows Vista Pre installed. I would like Windows XP, so I have bought a Windows XP Home edition disc and taken it to PC world so they can downgrade it for me. But I have been told it can't be done. Are they ...

I brought a new laptop with has Windows Vista Pre installed. I would like Windows XP, so I have bought a Windows XP Home edition disc and taken it to PC world so they can downgrade it for me. But I have been told it can't be done. Are they lying?Shouldn't have said downgrade. I don't want Vista at all. There is no dataon the laptop as yet as it is brand new. Coundn't find a new laptop with XP on it.

why can't they.? they should reformat vista and install xp . if they cant do it take the laptop back

no they are not lying when they say you cant down grade but you can reformat them by puting in the disc of windows xp turn your computer off buy the button and when it starts or as it starts rather click f8 and it ashould boot from the cd and then you can run windows xp

I don't think that they're lying on that one. Downgrading would mean taking away newer files or changing them to older ones and Windows will not let you do that. From the way I see it, I think that you could either, if you have another computer with xp on it, you could, with a computer cable, connect the two together and erase the laptop's hard drive completely, wipe it, and just transfer all of the files from that computer to your laptop, or you could insert the xp cd in your laptop and manually copy all of the files on the cd and then paste them in the main system folder, which would take some hours for the transfer to be complete, and then after that delete the vista files from the laptop, then restart it, and it should then be the xp operating system. I'm not 100% sure on both of these things, but I have tried them both and they both worked for me, but the case was a little different, I was upgrading. well you can always downgrade from windows vista to xp but verything may not work fully with out the correct drivers from what i have seen its hard to find xp drivers for a pc that comes with vista i know sony doesn't support other os driver downloads on thier new vista laptops i know HP you can download xp verison drivers for a a laptop or pc with vista pre in stalled im not sure about other brands

F8 is to start in safe mode.
As for "downgrading" to XP be aware that you will need XP compatible drivers.
