Hi, hope you can help.

When I start up my laptop I always get the folder "C:\Program Files\BT Voyager" appearing, and this folders shows another folder contained within entitled: "BT Voyager Wireless Folder".

I have to close this so I can get to my desktop. Silly thing is, if I'm not quick enough to close it, my mouse drops out and I then have to restart using the mousepad.

Is this something I can easily rectify?

Many thanks in anticipation.

That to me sounds like a virus, best to do a virus/spyware scan, see if it returns any results. It could be otehr things, but to me that does sound like a virus.

As Axegrinder pointed out run your antivirus, and atleast one spyware scan. Something may have gotten in and has changed the startup menu around.

Also go to Start > Run > type MSCONFIG and click OK > Startup tab.

See if the C:\Program Files\BT Voyager is set to run at startup. Your BT should be launching at startup, but not the whole folder.

Many thanks. Have run my Virus Checker - McAfee and checked Startup via MSCONFIG. No viruses found and the folder is not listed in the Startup file. Any other suggestions? I suppose I could uninstall and re-install my BT Internet Modem, but I really do not want to do that. It seems such a simple thing, but I'm completely stumped now!

Many thanks.

I actually need to see what all is running at startup so I will need a log.

Download HijackThis to your desktop.
Double-click on the file you just downloaded.
Click on the "Install" button to install.
It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
Please do not change the default install location.
Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.

Next click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button.
HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
In the top left of the notepad window click "File" > "Save As" name it hijackthis and then save it to the Desktop.
Please save the log as a text (.txt) file.
In your post, add the log as an Attachment.
* Don't have Hijackthis fix anything. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Many thanks for such a prompt response - again. I'll try this tomorrow when I'm alert and the cat's not around to walk over my keyboard!

Regards.

I am not seeing any malware but you have Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1

The current version is Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2

Why have you not updated to SP2

Is this a licensed copy of Windows?

Hi, thanks again.

Yes. All fully legitimate. All software came with my Dell Laptop. I did have a problem when I first got it and Microsoft sorted it for me. They said that if I'd have automatically upgraded to IE7 then they wouldn't have been able to correct my problem. Since then I have allowed any automatic updates as I am a bit wary. Would you advise me to just go onto the MS site and download all the updates to date?

Regards.
