Yes you need to update to SP2 as soon as possible.

But before doing so go to this page and follow the directions Get Your PC Ready for Windows XP SP2

Let us know how it works out.

Thanks, will do.

I've already found out that there's a patch for my Dell Inspiron 1150 which speeds it up for SP2. The slow operating post-SP2 was the reason I un-installed it originally. Again, will take things slowly to ensure I get it right and then let you know. Grateful for assistance as ever..

Regards.

Hi,

Back again. Have now installed the patch from Dell to allow my Inspiron 1150 to run post SP2. Consequently, have done all the Microsoft updates I was missing - some 73 I'm embarrased to say - including SP2, IE7, Etc. I then ran a full OneCare Safety Scan (on recommendation from my Brother-in-Law) and my laptop is now a completely different beast! Much faster and as good as it's ever been - apart from that damn "C:\Program Files\BT Voyager" folder that still opens up on startup and remains open. However, it no longer disables my mouse or printer and so all I need to do is close it and all is OK. I've done another HijackThis Log File, please see attached. Any advice gratefully received. If I can sort that problem I'll be very happy.

Many thanks.

I can't find anything suspicious in that log file at all.
All I see is this:
Code:
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
Which is just doing nothing I believe, an old entry that could use cleaning.

Thanks for having a look. I'll run another cleaner to see if that helps.

Open HijackThis and select "Do a system scan only"

Place a check mark next to:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msjava.dll
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msjava.dll
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Close all windows and click "Fix checked"

[SIZE=-1]Go to add/remove programs and look for Microsoft Java Virtual Machine and uninstall it.
The MS Java is no longer supported by MS so therefore unstable and vulnerable to malware.

Also look for Windows Messenger in add/remove programs and uninstall it also. <---(different from msn messenger)

Go to www.java.com to install Sun Java.

Next use StartUp Tool to see if the folder can be removed from the startup entries.

Done all that, but still didn't see anything in Startup Tool, so think I am going to have to live with it.

Many thanks for all your advice and assistance. Donation inbound.

Regards.

You can dig deeper by downloading Autoruns

Once installed open Autoruns, (not autorunssc) and select from the dropdown menu "Options > Hide Microsoft Entries" Then select "File > Refresh"

Under the Everything tab it will show everything that runs at startup. If you find an entry you do not want, right click it and choose Delete.

Look for C:\Program Files\BT Voyager under Image Path (hover the mouse over the entries to see the whole path)

Just don't delete the C:\Program Files\BT Voyager.exe

Hi,

Did all that, but couldn't see the culprit. Got to say though I'm more than happy to live with just having to close the folder because my laptop runs much quicker now.l
