Ok. I've got into a bit of a mess with my Dell Laptop. I bought it about 2 years ago and over the years it has become so clogged up and virus ridden that i decided it needed to be wiped. I found out that by reinstalling the operating system, the computer gets wiped and you start a fresh. So i did this, i entered in the product code, selected 'new install' rather than 'upgrade'. I went through a lengthy process. When it was done, i restarted my PC, and on a black screen, it gave me the choice of Windows XP Home, or Windows XP Home (there were two of them). So i just pressed enter, and i got to my new desktop. It seemed to have worked, but after looking in local disc c, it hadnt. Everything was there but i could not access it as i was no longer 'ADRIAN' as was my computer name before. On restarting the PC, i tried loading up the other XP option, but it wouldnt let me. So it seems now i have a fairly messed up computer. I just want to reinstall windows, have only one operating system with all the old stuff wiped, so it can be like new again. How do i do this and sort out the dilema i am in?
(if i need to reinstall windows i need instructions, i have no idea what im doing!) thanks. |

You did an install over the top of the bad install.

It gave you a list of partitions to install to. You need to delete them all and then create a new one to install to.

I thought so too, but it would not let me delete the NTFS one because it says stuff are on it that are needed for the installation, or something like tht .
