when installing windows xp my computer cuts out after the formatting part reaches 100% does anybody know the reason for this please? it also switches off when i try to go into safe mode and last known good configuration etc!!!

This happened to me once and it was the CMOS battery at fault.
Not saying that is your problem because it could be any number of hardware faults.If the PC is quite old though it is a possibility.
