Hi,
This is a long story that I will try to keep short. In brief, while trying to fix a friends computer I hooked up my own HD to his computer so I could get into windows and get files off his HD and attempt to fix it. While trying to get this to work, I managed to botch up my Windows OS too. It's XP 64bit. I'm not sure what I did that started the problem, but I may have "restored" some files that his RegCure had removed from his HD onto mine... I know, pretty dumb. Anyway, as is, my Windows:1. Is missing the taskbar. (Ctr + Esc does not work.) 2. Will not copy or paste. 3. Cannot search for files. (The search box is all black but it does have the little dog animation in the bottom) 4. The start menu does not appear when the Windows button is pressed. 5. Cannot drag files on desktop or in explorer. Beside that, everything works fine. Windows is taking longer to load than normal, it hangs on the "Please wait... windows is starting up" window, just before the log in window. I've run SFC /scannow and that has fixed nothing. I've been working on these computers for five days now and am getting close to loosing it! Thanks, |

Have you tried a Repair Install?

I have not, from what I have read that seems like a last ditch effort. Would I risk loosing all of my MyDoc files? As is, I can't back them up because I can't copy anything.

Not at all. All it is doing is removing the damaged file from you system and reinstalling them from a new.
