Hi, can anyone please help. I have windows xp with service pack 1 included on the disc. I have noticed that microsoft no longer support service pack 1 only sp2. If I have to do a complete reinstall as I have in the past can anyone tell me how to do this as my disc asks me to do updates on sp1 and they now only do them for sp2. Thanks for any help you are able to give me.

Are you currently running service pack 1 or have you updated to service pack 2?

If you reinstall windows running service pack 1, you will be able to install service pack 2 from the microsoft website (or using windows update I think too). So getting updates shouldnt be a problem. It should be possible to download service pack 2 and save it to a disk so that you can install it quickly after you reinstall windows. I'm not sure that you can do it from the microsoft site, but there certainly used to be good sites where you could download it from. If you google you can probably find one, if not its available on the microsoft site as an update.

Hi cyberspacegenie, thanks for the reply. I do have SP2 at the moment but If I do a reinstall of windows it goes back to SP1. As microsoft don't do updates for SP1 anymore I just wondered what I would need to do. Thought I would find out first as it's hard to get the info when PC has crashed after kids have infected the thing Lol and I have had to do it a few times over the last couple of years. Thanks again. Shed.

Now, you can simply upgrade WIndows XP Sp1 to SP2, there is need to reinstall your windows sp2 simply upgrade it.

Using upgrade option is best ways to keep your data secure and consume your time during installation and will overwrite all data and file on existing one, and the program installed on your computer will same as previous and continue to work.

So, first try to purchase SP 2 and if you have this then try to upgrade SP 1 to SP2.

Best of Lick.
