Default XP Install

Please Help
System:
PC Chips P23G (v 3.0) mb
1 gb ultra 400 MHz DDR
E machines cd rw drive
emachines dvd drive
80 gb emachines harddrive
nSpire 300W psu

the emachine i had before crashed and i lost the recovery cd, so i figured i would just put some better parts in for a decent machine.
well, heres the problem. When i tried to install xp home from the upgrade cd or full install cd (happen to have both), the machine starts, posts, and then states
"press enter to boot from cd" or somethine like that
then i tell it to full install. it starts the hardware check and then a black screen appears.i've tried leaving it there but nothing happens.

here what i've tried:
mobo bios finds harddrive at first boot
reseated all hardware connections
restarted computer
let it sit
used upgrade and full install disk (upgrade is sp 2)
runs linux 7.01? (fiesty fawn)
disabled acpi and all unused hardware for installation in bios
cleared cmos and set bios to default
put harddrive in another couputer and formatted it

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

thanks nate

You have to give more information than that.

What exactly are you trying to do?

both xp discs (upgrade and full-which i found out is a gateway genuine after buying) are oem and work on another, much older machine. when i say work i mean will actually start installing before i tell it to quit.
