Delete all but last System Restore point in XP In Windows XP some applications make restore points and you can end up with many and just before i install a new program i make a restore point but i also delete all but the one i have just made. Here is how its done - Windows XP in My Computer right click on your C: / Boot Drive in the drop down list at the bottom you will see Properties left click on that a small window will open C: Properties left click on Disk Cleanup, this will run a few seconds then a small window will open Disk Cleanup for C:, at the top left click on More Options now you will see at the bottom System Restore left click the button Cleanup, a window will open asking you Yes / No left click Yes, wait a few seconds then close all windows by left clicking Cancel then close My Computer, you have now deleted all but your last System Restore Point. Or You could click on Start then Run and type cleanmgr then press enter and your at Disk Cleanup tools then proceed as above.

Yeah, very helpful. I just figured that out recently, and I can't begin to tell you how many restore points I had. They were taking up quite a large amount of space, and it was nice to finally clear them out.

There is one more benefit of deleting all but your last System Restore Point some nasties like to hide in System Restore.

Thanks for the tip. I have used System Restore several times, but it never occurred to me to remove some of the restore points. I have noticed that some software creates a new System Restore point. Doesn't XP create them on a pretty regular basis, too?

Apart from a Restore Point being made when installing new Software/Hardware, Points may be stored with regard to a system error.

Generally there are several cleanup tools that cleans the backups. I think it is also possible to do it through Windows itself.

Thanks for this little tweak. I am sure it would be helpful to all those people who are using their operating system since years now and thus have accumulated a large number of Restore Points. Thanks for your efforts.
