I've got an old laptop that I was having problems with so I upgraded it to XP professional, as that was the only version I had a copy of. Unfortunately it's been so long since anybody used it that we can't remember what the password was. Is there any way that I can reset the logon password

boot up in safe mode, then type the username "administrator" with no password, and that should log you on with a full administrative account.

Used the administrator logon, didn't realise it would be set with a blank password. I'm now logged on. Cheers.

I don't think you can change that password.

control userpasswords2

I think you can just change the Administrator password by logging in to that account in Safe Mode and then Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select change password or something.

Or do it through Control Panel whilst in Safe Mode.

Or as Mike said - Start - Run - Nokian TRI2

You can use the last method whilst your not in Safe Mode.
