Default Xp so slow

After updates after xp sp3 my 3gb ram xp is sometimes very slow and the amount of times internet exployer has to close is beyond a joke.

I have noticed that this windows search programme which seems to have been installed in the last updates is the last to ready it's self on start up.

I have just installed my new mcafee and adware and run scans but nothing unusual.

Has anyone else noticed the go slow after the latest updates or is it just my pc?

Might be malware, McAfee isn't great.

Have a run through these.

got to run..type in msconfig click on tab (startup) un tick anything you DO NOT want to startup on logon. this will help performance drematacly if there is loads of programs starting up and are just not needed.

and if you are an advanced user or confident you can click tab ( services) for the avridge user will not use most in that tab HENCE tern them off doing this wil give you the most porformance improvment

you can rearch each (service) on google and read what they are and decide if you need it.

this is the first thing i doo on a fresh new install i see no point in programs/services running taking up that porformance and not ever using them

also try power toys (Tweak UI) for your xp to fine tune things.. (free download of microsoft website)

i installed the sp3 and all was ok for me :-) it seemed xp was abit faster to me

Thanks for your help guy's it was very helpfull.

There was no Malware Dave but my disc needed defragglising and i think the other prob was excessive programme start up so i defraggled the disc and turned about 6 programmes off on start up which werent needed including that windows search..........things seem better and a bit faster now.
