Default XP XP2 and 16 bit apps

Having just installed new hard disks on my PC and done a complete re-install, with Windows XP SP2, I am finding that many of my older programs no longer work.
They worked previously under XP SP1, but refuse to do the business under SP2.
Is there any workaround, or do I have to search for patches for individual programs, or is it just not possible ?
Failures so far include:
Microsoft Foxpro 2.6 for Windows;
eGames Galaxy of Mahjongg2;
eGames Card & Board Games.
There are a host of the children's other games that I've yet to install, but if XP SP2 is causing this much grief, then I'll just have to clean it all down and reinstall with XP SP1 again.
The weird thing with the Foxpro setup is that Foxpro itself works ok. I can also run any of the applications that I created as standalone exe's, from within Foxpro, but they won't run directly under XP any more. (Foxpro and all the apps are already patched with DZPATCH for the divide by zero error caused by XP)

I can only suggest two things:

Right click on any programs that will not work (including installers) and select compatibility with Win98/95.

Otherwise, start in safe mode and try installing.

It was very strange. When I first re-installed all my old apps, they didn't want to work, but next day they worked as normal. So hopefully, that's the way that it's going to stay as I really don't want to have to do any more re-installs.
