Default XP's Blue screen of death

I've got a problem on my PC, when I log on normally it seems to run through it's boot up process ok I log onto windows and it starts loading the start up programs, then after a minute or two the PC just dies. If I reboot and use safe mode I get the blue screen of death and the only technical info it gives me is the STOP line but nothing after that, for anyone who hex the line reads as follows

STOP: 0x0000007B (0XF79C0528,0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

If I reboot use the Directory Services Restore Mode the PC runs ok and allows me to run any program I want for as long as I want

Just wondered if anybody might know what's causing the problem

This is your statement on The AnswerBank website Ron;

"I had a problem the other day whereby when I booted my PC and then logged on IE would kick off and open up multiple copies of the same web page. I ran AVG and manage to cure that problem, but it's now left me with another one. If I boot up in any version of 'Safe Mode' my PC is stable, but if I boot up normally it runs through the usual startup processes and then after about 5 minutes the PC just shuts down. Anybody got any ideas of what's causing it or how I might cure it. I've run registry mechanic, Spybot and various other utilities and although they all say they've found and cured a problem I still get the same result when I reboot".

What I'd like to know is what was the "problem" that was discovered?

Alex, I've had a look at the page and I've now tried most things on it with the same result, the PC is only stable when it's booted in Directory Services restore mode

Stop errors are in another league as against what Spybot etc would find.
Can you remember what the problem that was found was?

Sorry, can't remember the error that was found by the utilities I ran, I was just happy that they'd found and fixed something

I ran msconfig and removed all the startup items and any non microsoft serviices and rebooted. The system seems to be stable now. I'll have to find out if anybody here installed any new software, as I know I didn't. Thanks for all your help/suggestions
