I've bought a new Laptop about a month ago which included Windows Vista, it is quite wonderful. After that I also bought an external harddrive and whenever I try to save anything on there from a program it says:
"F:/______ You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administer to obtain permission. Would you like to save in _____ instead?" I don't understand why I receive this message, I am the admin. Any thoughts? |

If you have UAC turned on, Vista does not like you saving files to the Root folder of the drive .... it's part of Vista's new Security features.
If you create a folder on the external drive, you should be able to save to that, without a problem. If you specifically want to save files to the Root, you will either have to turn off UAC or change the permissions on the external drive. To change permissions, goto "Computer", right click the external drive, select Properties and click on the Security tab .... click "Edit" and give yourself the permissions, by ticking up all the boxes.
