I thought I'd create a thread where we can get everyones thoughts on Vista and why some people hate it.

I for one like Vista, I think it's a very good O/S and have been running it for over a year with no problems whatsoever -- yes great stability!

What many people forget is that vista is made for future hardware, so when people upgrade they just think it's rubbish. Some don't even try it and just convince their selves that it is not a very good O/S -- when in fact it is.

I can remember back when Windows XP was released, nearly everyone hated it and preferred 98 -- now look everyone loves XP. It's just the way things happen, people moan, because they can.

Everyone will grow to love Vista, XP isn't going to last forever...

So, what are everyone else's thoughts on Windows Vista?

Regards Jason

Like it, haven't played games on it, will use XP for that. Love the interface w/ Aero, love the built in speech recognition (English and Japanese, still have to try out the latter), associated multi-language support, and doesn't seem to eat up any more memory than XP.

I use it to play games as well -- although I would call my self much of a gamer.

If you are a gamer and you don't mind dropping about 10 FPS, then you should upgrade to Vista.

who says you have to drop your fps using vista? i've seen two computers of similar strength, one with xp and one with vista, and the vista machine was running the game better. even more surprising, the vista computer was a laptop, and the xp a desktop.

quite frankly, i'm ambivalent towards vista. i don't love it or hate it. i'd be glad to give it a shot. the only thing i don't like about it is the new system of error reporting. it doesn't exactly give you a lot of information regarding what exactly the error was or how to fix it. it just says an error occurred.

aside from that, i don't really have a beef with it. and if i had the money, i'd try running vista home premium on my current machine.

there are a lot of features that vista has that i like. for instance being able to adjust internet volume alone rather than adjusting the entire thing. that's rather nice.

and vista has been said to stabilize over time. even better. i think it has potential. i'm not sure i could say it much better than you did earlier. way too many people b1tch and moan about vista because of the system requirements. or they try it and forget they're using inferior hardware that vista wasn't designed for.

Vista isn't quite so good with games as XP. I've done multiple tests, like others and many (like myself) have said you drop a few FPS with Vista. But I'm more than sure that SP1 is going to be a great release. I've been a BETA tester of it, and it does increase speed a little, not forgetting it increases file transfer.

nobody's perfect. whenever you make something, you'll always find a few kinks in it somewhere inevitably. again, i have great faith that vista will eventually become the better gaming platform once games and drivers and such become optimized for vista users and such.

regardless, i think if you have the right hardware, then a few FPS shouldn't be a big deal. if you're running a geforce 8800gt or better, it'll be unnoticeable.

I concur.

Once newer hardware is released, everyone will grow to love Vista, like they did with XP.

I'm not fond of it at the moment, but that's because I run old hardware. Hell, took me ages to switch from win2000 (best OS ever) to XP.
Plus, I use Linux (specifically CentOS) a lot more than I used to, because it can do more with less resources... just that it is a PITA to get it to that state.
Otherwise, my impressions from Vista are that some new interface ideas make it easier to use, but make advanced features harder to get to. The same thing that happened with XP.

For one, I hated XP when it came out for the same reason i hate vista, becuase its buggy. yes buggy.

Once vista gets better, then ill begin to use it, but for now im using XP and MacOSx

I actually dont even like XP, but i use it becuase there are many games i like to play on XP

And also, i have used vista, installed it on my own pc, and i didnt like it one bit. You pay loads of money to get stuff that you can get free of the internet (besides DX10). Plus its buggy, yes buggy.

Getting it free of the internet is called downloading illegal software and you are at risk.

I disagree with everything you've said, Vista is a great O/S.

List me your specs and I bet that's the reason why you had problems.

Regards Jason :)
