Default Your thoughts on Windows Vista?

Maybe not ....... Microsoft are now leaking news about Windows 7, the next version of Windows and it looks like they are setting up business users to switch from XP to Windows 7.

Does this mean Microsoft have already given up on Vista, I wonder ?

Default Your thoughts on Windows Vista?

I don't think so Phil.

Even though Windows Vista is taking a severe beating at the hands of consumers and critics alike, Microsoft still has faith in its latest operating system and doesn't believe there's any need to abandon it just yet. But just in case you were hoping for Windows 7 to hit store shelves next year, the company doesn't want you to hold your breath.
Taken from HERE.

Microsoft aren't daft. There going to want make as much from their new O/S vista. They know people are going to switch to Vista, no matter how much people doubt it. They started on Vista before XP was released, so they've obviously already started on Windows 7.

However, I reckon it will be delayed, and would predict sometime around 2012.

So I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Regards Jason

Time will tell, but if it succeeds by default, simply because M$ discontinue XP, then I fail to see how that can be regarded as progress.

But hey .... Microsoft were confident about ME, which was their biggest white elephant

I concur, let the time do the talking hehe.

Cew27, Linux is way too basic for me, I just don't like it, although I can't dispute the price

XP or linux?

sorry that's not clear just by that post...I'm assuming you mean Vista.

As for me, I have yet to actually touch a Vista machine. I'm pretty low maintenence when it comes to what i demand out of my OS. I want it to not use up too much of my resources, run random and unnecessary processes in the background, and to be stable.

that's about it. My version of XP pro lasted from the time before SP2 till just recently, with nothing done to it but the occasional automatic updates (which i acually stopped doing once they futzed up the school's computers.)

What advantages have you found Dave and why do you need it ?

I am still to be convinced that it offers anything that XP doesn't, apart from DX10, but if you're not a gamesplayer, this isn't of any great benefit.
Sure it has some pretty features, but are these alone worth the expensiive price tag .

Default Your thoughts on Windows Vista?

I find the way it looks just light years beyond XP, it just feels much more current and slick.

I also much prefer it to work on, installs are faster, repairs are faster, the networking and file sharing is much more stable etc.

Behind the scenes it is a much better OS, but I agree if your XP isn't broken then don't fix it, just get a Vista icon pack.

Well .... I can see your point for installs etc., it certainly goes on much quicker and there's no doubt it looks pretty.
I have had issues with Networking, but that could be my set up .... I dont really know yet.

The main reason I purchased Vista was to stay up to date and embrace the new OS, but so far, I feel I wasted my money. Having said that I am an optomist, so maybe some of Jase123's enthusiasm will rub off on me in time ..... I dont feel it yet though

Default Your thoughts on Windows Vista?

I note that sales of XP are due to end at the end of June, but Business Licences of 25 users or more will still be available. Also support for XP is due to end in April 2009.
I think this will be the "crunch" time for M$.

M$ will be shooting themselves in the foot, if they stop supporting XP. There are likely to be many millions of users around the globe still using XP and if all those machines are left susceptible to trojans, virus's etc. because of no security updates ..... who do you think will get the blame, when they all start to infect all the newer machines . M$ know this and have a dilemna, but the publicity machine will plough on regardless, hoping to convince folkl to dump XP.
Business users will not be so easily fooled and as XP Professional is guaranteed support for a further 5 years, I believe they will hang on for Windows 7.

Aww that sucks that they will not be supporting XP past april of 09. I guess I will have to spend some money and get vista next year. Oh well hopefully SP1 will help it out some.

All them links are not useful.

You really think that is footage of Windows 7?

Also, don't rely on Wiki as your only source, all the information in there is not correct, and you should confirm by looking at other places, rather than relying on one source.
