I have a desktop pc that the kids use and i haven't used that often since buying my lptop. For the past 5-6 months this news alert window keep opening in the bottom right hand corner and its getting really annoying now. It wasn't always there so where has it come from and how can i stop it?
Also i had a problem with the desktop and was advised to run spybot which solved the problem(sorry can't remember what it was) but now whenever we are using the pc the spybot window opens don't know that it says don't understand any of it but again its really annoying as it keeps coming up.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer

First:

• Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
• Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

Second:

• Open Spybot S&D
• Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
• Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
• If your firewall raises a question, say OK
• Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
• Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
• Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Download and rename HijackThis (HJT)

• Double-click on HJTInstall.
• Click on the Install button.
• It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
• Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
  • Close HijackThis and rename it.
  • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
  • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
  • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
  • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
• From the desktop open HiajckThis.
• If using Windows Vista, Right-click and Run As Administrator.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
• HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
• Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
  • Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Although we have renamed HijackThis to sniper, we will still refer to it as HijackThis or HJT.

ok, the window in the bottom right hand corner says Configure alerts and it displays the news headlines and there are about 20 in all that all show up in the box one at a time.
As for spybot the msgs keep changing depending on what i am doing on the pc at the time. Yesterday i was instaaling yahoo messenger then the spybot msg was something to do with that "Spybot has detected an important registry."
Hope that helps and BTW how do you take screenshot of something to post on here or anywher else???

OK i am upto the second part where i have rebooted my pc.After install Hijackthis the options are:
Do a system scan and save a logicfile
Do a system scan only
View the list of backups
Open the misc Tools section
Open online HijackThis Quickstart#None of the above,just start the program.
Where can i find Close Hijackthis and rename it and carry on with the rest of the task?

I am coming close to tears trying to copy and paste the log but when i am right clicking the option to copy pasts isn,t there i have even tried cntrl c. What am i doing wrong i have come this far and want to do this plz help. I suppose i will have to do the scan again as well so i can can wait for your reply.

Close ALL windows except for Hijackthis and click Fix checked.

Exit Hijackthis.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) to your desktop from either of these two links.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
• Please copy and paste the log into your next reply
  • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
