I use AVG Antivirus (free) and I've had no problems.

I also have Ad-Aware and and Spybot S&D, all behind a firewall (not the windows pathetic effort either).

To the best of my knowledge I haven't had any 'infections' of any sort with this set-up.
I use an on-line scanner to check my system occaisionally, as a final, piece of mind, check.

None of these have cost a penny.

How to run the OS in ram?

I use kaspersky, it's great.

I also used nod32 before and that was just as good.

Are you getting viruses, spyware or other problems? Could it not be that this is happening because you are visiting dodgy websites, opening files from unknown sources, downloading "freeware" of questionable origin and suchlike? If the answer is yes, then there's no need to stop, just start being a bit more careful, that's all!

Visiting dodgy sites, downloading "freeware", or anything like that? If so, you might want to consider doing these riskfull things inside a sandbox, such as a VMware virtual machine.

You can download VMware server for free at

Thanks for your advice.
I use which can take Microsoft Windows XP / 2K /NT / ME / 9X / 2K3 Server / PE to run totally in RAM under diskless condition. Since the OS is running in ram, it provides a clean and secure environment for me to operate my computer everytime when I reboot the computer and the risk of infection of virus can be eliminated.

You can not promote your products in any way shape or form here.
As a site owner you should know it isn't free to run one.

Nice try but we have information that can assist us in figuring out clever spammers as well as not so clever ones.

Initally I spat my soup onto my screen.

Now I've just snorted it through my nose.

But it was completely worth it.

Awesome reply!

Well if you were looking for a paid one then i would say either Nod32 because it has a small footprint or Zone Alarm Security Suite which is an all round great program.

For a free one i would have to say Avast! 4 Home Edition.
