Default Best Security Software.

I am sure this has been talked about before and there is no real right answer to it. Everyone has their preferences and will tell you their free program is better than your expensive one.

But the most commonly used programs are:

Paid for ones:

NOD32
AVG AV
Avast
McAfee
Kaspersky (Said to be the most accurate at the moment)
Norton (Said to be one of the worst of the paid for ones...)
Panda Security
Bull Guard

Free Versions Available:

AVG
Avast
A few others that are fairly hard to use

Then theres loads of programs for removing spy ware. Often the free ones are the best ones. There is no best one and each is used for specific problems

Hijack This is a very useful tool for finding problems.

Default Best Security Software.

I use Avast, Spybot (With real time protection), Adaware and a hardware firewall on my router.

All free and all better than their overpriced paid equivalents.

Default Best Security Software.

What is the best kind of security for

My current favorite mix is.
  • Antivirus = Avast - I have AVG on another PC, they have improved alot recently.
  • Firewall = PC Tools Firewall Plus Free
  • Internet Safety = Firefox + Adblock Plus + No Script + McAfee Site Advisor
  • Live guards = Comodo BOClean + WinPatrol 2007 + Spyware Blaster
( can include $$$ program );

If you are going to pay for antispyware then Counterspy is the absolute best. It has a 15 day trial, worth using even if it is just during the trial period. Good price also.

The only benefit of paid AV is live support. You can get free live support here.
