add security to network (but can connect to other networks)? I have a linksys wireless-g router, which has worked before. i did reformat my computer but it connects to other networks no prob so i dont think thats the prob. The thing is, I can connect wirelessly as an unsecured network. But whenever I add any kind of security (wep,wpa,wpa2 etc) the connection is lost.Someone please help!thanksi did get past the password part, itr asked for the password, i entered it and then it tried to connect for next 5 minutes . I think its the device you trying to connect does not support certain encryption. You would have to make sure both the PC-router and device all has the same encryption and same passkey.Refer to your user manual on how to set it.

encryption keys can be a little funny.when you first set up, let's say a wep, you put in a pass phrase. the router then generated 4 pass keys. they are different length depending upon 16 or 32 bit encryption.you must use one of these strings of numbers in the computer, not the pass phrase.you may also set which pass key to use of the 4.that allows different options for different computers.make sure you turned off the firewall before you did all this and then when it's working, turn the firewall back on.

Some one could have have themselves in the "hidden" mode, and will block someone with anti spy-ware.
