hey guys, anyone using the new version of comodo firewall?

my friend has a new laptop which came with vista and i had to wait for the version 3 of comodo to put a firewall on it (used windows firewall till then).

i have read up on the new version and have read good things about the new gui and everything but i have issues with how much it has changed:
i loved the application monitor in version 2.4, it was easy and straightforward to have control over which apps were able to connect to the internet and which ones were not.

i could find nothing like the application monitor for ages in the new version, after days of trying it out i found application rules:

firewall tab:
advanced tab:
network security policy:
application rules

is this the equivalent to the application monitor and if so does it work the same?

cheers guys

anyways

i'll do my best with it on the vista laptop but i'll stick with 2.4 on all my xp computers:

whats the point of fixing something that ain't broke and ruining its usability for the sake of a prettier gui? it's not like there's any other free firewalls as good as 2.4.

i was expecting v. 3.0 to be pretty much the same just compatible with vista

stupid

All GUIs seem to be migrating to the Vista look and feel.

Like it or not, Vista is the future.

i know but no reason not to have the application monitor still there with a vista skin, form over function is a bad thing with something as vital as a good firewall.

even vista seemed functionally very similar to xp when i tried it for 1/2 an hour, had 2 gigs of ram so no problem, i always adjust windows for best performance and forgo the prettiness anyway

have you tried comodo 3? do you think that the network security policy is the new equivalent for having a list of apps with allow or deny next to their names so you always know where you are?

may try that one then, do you know if it has a feature like the app monitor?

just bitter about comodo, only other free firewall i could ever get along with was zone alarm free and comodo was much better than that, we were very happy together

edit: is pc tools free firewall vista compatible?

Yep it is Vista compatible. http://www.pctools.com/firewall/

It has an application monitor.
Applications, advanced rules, history, and activity. Plus normal user and advanced user settings.
