Since yesterday my computer has been randomly freezing. I've got a lenovo thinkpad and I'm using windows 7 professional. It doesn't seem to be tied to any program I've been using, because it happens even when I'm not running anything. At first if I have something open the program will freeze and it'll say that it's unresponsive, but then the entire screen freezes up and I can't do anything. Pressing ctrl+alt+del doesn't even do anything, so the only way to shut down my computer is to do it manually. I recently just got my computer working again when there was a problem with the taskbar (the topic is still on the first page here). But this problem only started yesterday. I've run ccleaner several times, and malwarebytes also, but it hasn't found anything. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

This could be an issue with hardware, background programs or a corrupt operating system.

First go to start, type "msconfig" press enter, click the startup tab, click disable all, click ok and restart your computer. If the problem is resolved then the problem was due to a program running in the background, if this is unsuccessful you can reverse this by following the same procedure but click enable all instead of disable all.

If that didn't work you can scan your system files for errors by going to start, type cmd, type "sfc /scannow" and press enter. This may take some time to complete and it should tell you which system files were repaired if it does detect any damaged ones. Restart your computer after this is done.

If nothing has worked so far it could be a hardware problem, this gets a bit more complicated but there are various tools you can download to help. You can download speedfan to monitor the temperatures of your computer's components; anything that is running at around or above 70c without any intensive applications running could indicate an overheating problem. You can test the ram for errors by following this guide. If you are able to detect any hardware errors I can assist you further.

    Hopefully this will help.

Nothing worked. Disabling those programs didn't help. The scans didn't find anything wrong. And nothing was overheating when it last froze, everything stayed around 40c.

I have noticed that there's a sort of pattern to the freezing. My computer will be fine for most of the day, but then when the freezing starts it will keep happening after a few minutes after I restart my computer. Eventually I just give up and open it in safe mode or just keep the computer turned off.
