Please can anyone help, recently my internet froze and whole computer needed to be switched off at mains to close. The internet could not run after that. I ran spybot and came up with a message of 'windows firewall override'. I have been into control panel, windows firewall and reset default which makes internet run no problem, but the next time I use the computer the same problem occurs and usually when i click on windows firewall it tells me that 'due to an unidentified promlem I cannot access windows firewall' hence internet unuseable. Strangely sometimes it works, hence my being online now. I am thinking of resetting windows but if anyone has another solution it will save me losing all my stored material. Any help appreciated Hugh

If you go to Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Resources and click "Change the way Security Center alerts me" it will open "Alert Settings". There are three Alerts available: 1. Firewall - Alert me if my computer might be at risk because of my firewall settings 2. Automatic Updates - Alert me if my computer might be at risk because of my Automatic Updates settings 3. Virus Protection - Alert me if my computer might be at risk because of my virus protection software settings When any of these alerts are unchecked, the Security Center will NOT notify you if your Firewall or Antivirus is disabled. But Spybot will detect the changes and report that the registry settings are different from the expected defaults in its database which are set to show the Security Center alerts are on. If you have intentionally set them this way, then you can safely right click and tell Spybot to exclude them in future scans.

Also, what version of Spybot are you using?

These are all ticked, I dont think that the problem is spybot i just think that spybot has alerted me to it, the main problem is that i usually cannot even open windows firewall in control panel.

What stops you from opening the windows firewall in control panel? Have you had any virus/malware lately? Post a HijackThis log here so I can have a look. Download HijackThis to your desktop. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Install" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis Please do not change the default install location. Upon install, HijackThis should open for you. Select "Do a system scan and save a log file" Post the log here.
